Birchwood LaFreniere Court
A New Kind of Neighborhood in the Heart of Bellingham
LaFreniere Court at Unity Place is more than a housing development, it’s a thoughtfully designed neighborhood where affordability, sustainability, and belonging come together.
Located in Bellingham’s Birchwood neighborhood, LaFreniere Court offers 18 permanently affordable homes designed to support long-term stability, low utility costs, and a strong sense of community. These homes are ideal for households looking for an affordable path to homeownership without sacrificing quality, comfort, or environmental responsibility.
❋ Permanently Affordable
We blend guided moments, open exploration, and space to reflect—so the experience feels both focused and fluid.
❋ Quality Finishes
Connection is a core part of the process. You’ll learn just as much from the group as from the content itself.
❋ Community Centered Living
Led by experienced guides who know how to hold space, encourage participation, and keep things moving with purpose.
❋ Sustainable by Design
Our events prioritize comfort, safety, and respect—so you can show up as you are and fully engage in the process.
About the Homes
LaFreniere Court includes a mix of townhomes and detached residences arranged to encourage connection while respecting privacy:
18 new energy‑efficient homes organized into:
4 clusters of 4 attached townhomes
2 detached single‑family homes designed for accessibility and universal design
Small private yards for every home
Front porches and shared outdoor spaces that support neighborly interaction
Each home is built to exceptionally high-performance standards, prioritizing durability, comfort, and long-term affordability.
Estimated Home Prices
LaFreniere Court homes are permanently affordable through KulshanCLT’s community land trust model.
2‑Bedroom Homes: $195,000 – $215,000
3‑Bedroom Homes: $239,000 – $248,000
Exact pricing will depend on final construction costs and financing details.
LaFreniere Court homes are made affordable in part using federal funding from the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP). Homebuyers must be willing to volunteer 50 hours (or 100 hours for families with two adult heads of household) toward the construction and landscaping of their home prior to closing. Volunteer hours are expected to take place between May and September of 2026.
