The Perfect Place for Us

What do you love about your house?

AnnMarie remembers that when they were first house hunting, “We had written out a list of everything we wanted in a house, like a vision board. We told our realtor. And she was like, ‘Well, you're not going to get an island in the kitchen. And you probably won't get a deck, and you won't get a mature tree.’” After they had toured this house, they looked back at the list and were amazed to see that it checked almost all the boxes!

AnnMarie says, “Every time I walk in the door, I'm like, ‘Oh yeah, this is my house. This is the house that I should live in.’”

They both love the security of owning a home. “I'm not going to get that message that says, ‘I'm going to sell,’ or ‘Your rent’s going up.’ There’s that feeling of belonging and caring about the street and the people on it.”

AnnMarie and Peg remember growing up in a time when kids had the run of the neighborhood. Homeownership has allowed them to create this feeling for their neighbor kids – they have a crew of seven young friends that stop by on their bikes and even get special goody bags at Halloween. “I love being a safe place for kids,” AnnMarie reflects.

How has KulshanCLT affected your family?

Peg jumps in: “I don't think we'd be able to stay in Bellingham if we didn't have a Kulshan house.”

AnnMarie shares, “Putting this house in the trust is probably one of the big life things that I've done. Getting this little plot into the trust that will always be there is a cool accomplishment. This house is ours right now, but it's a Kulshan house forever. And somebody else is going to have the same type of opportunity that we did.”

Support from community members like you made AnnMarie and Peg’s home affordable to them (and to the families that will come after them). Thank you for building up a beautiful community in Whatcom County of neighbors who care about each other.
