Thornton Village is a visionary permanently affordable neighborhood coming to northeast Ferndale with as many as 50 homes. With sweeping views of Mt. Baker and access to excellent schools, the site offers a balance of natural beauty and community connection. This project is a partnership with Whatcom County, which purchased the land using ARPA funds to support long-term affordability. Thornton will feature a mix of middle housing types (such as duplexes, cottages, and townhomes) arranged around shared open courtyards and pedestrian pathways that foster connection and community. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027. We are currently in the pre-development phase and invite your input as we design this new neighborhood together.
